Prof. Cascante obtained in 2003 his Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering at Universidad de Costa Rica (San José, Costa Rica), working on photonics. He obtained in 2010 his PhD at Department of Applied Physics of University of Valencia (Valencia, Spain), working on microstructured fiber optics, fiber optics tapers and supercontinuum laser sources. Since 2003, he works as professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering School (EIE) of the University of Costa Rica (UCR). In 2010 he founded NLPR-LAB (Non Linear Photonics Research Lab) EIE-UCR, as an academic and research laboratory on prototype lasers. Currently, he is Director of the graduate program, NLPR-LAB coordinator and LAFTLA collaborator. He has participated over 26 publications, 17 as first author. His areas of interest are nonlinear effects in optical fibers and solid crystals, the radiation sources with solid state elements and microstructured fibers, fiber lasers, optical sensors and the fabrication of prototypes.
