The course is divided into four conferences. The first conference includes an introduction to the operation mechanisms, details on parts and components and also characteristics of the emission for solid state lasers. Relevant technological aspects are described relating to the manufacture of these lasers. The second conference deals with the surfaces cleaning. It introduces the laser cleaning mechanisms and specific cases, related to both restoration of art works, and industrial applications. The third lecture is devoted to introducing the Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), the experimental details, advantages and most promising applications. The fourth and final lecture presents the technique of Pulse Laser Deposition (PLD), describes the process of ablation-deposition, technological aspects and benefits. There are presented several applications in thin films fabrication, in particular progress in the development of nanometer-scale structures. In general, this course provides an overview of developments and prospects for solid state lasers and some of its most exciting applications.
